It’s been seemingly forever since we’ve heard anything regarding the next installment of the Superman franchise. Suddenly, almost faster than a speeding bullet news and rumors are floating to the surface. Last week, a story appeared on Ain’t it Cool News indicated that the Wachowski Brothers, creators of the Matrix trilogy, had been approached by Warner Brothers to reboot the Superman franchise in a trilogy. This rumor was quickly debunked, and now comes evidence to suggest that the next Superman film will be a sequel to Superman Returns. “a password protected page from the official Legendary Pictures website where a movie titled “Superman Unleashed” is listed amongst their films in development. The page reads: ‘Ramping up the action of its esteemed predecessor, the sequel to ‘Superman Returns’ promises to raise the stakes and take the audience to heights of action that no other superhero movie can achieve.’ The plot thickens as the folks over at Think McFly Think have done some digging, and confirmed the validity of this development saying, “The Superman sequel is listed in Production Weekly and the screen-capture that started this development is real. So this news is legit.” Look… I, like every other Superman fan, am excited at the sign of any forward movement regarding another Superman film, but how about a little clarity here. I think the time has come for Warner Brothers to release an official statement regarding their plans for the next film.
