Will Warner Brothers Finally Give DC Comics Fans some Justice in 2013!?

By: Kryptonian Detective

Several years ago Warner Brothers was close to making a film about the DC Comics superhero team the Justice League.  Thankfully, the  train wreck titled Justice League: Mortal was never made for a variety of reasons. Now however, with DC Entertainment and Warner Brothers finally getting their act together, it seems that the idea of the team up film is back on the horizon.  Recently promoted to President of Warner Brothers motion picture group Jeff Robinov, says plans are in motion for the World’s Greatest Superheroes to unite onscreen. “Robinov said a new Justice League script is in the works. Also being written for Warner are scripts featuring the Flash and Wonder Woman, who could be spun off into their own movies after Justice League”.  With Green Lantern being released this summer, the third installment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman franchise, and Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot both set for a 2012 release, three of the core JLA members would be in the minds of movie viewers prior to that 2013 date.

This news is certainly unexpected and raises a few questions.  One is, what role will Batman play in this film, given that The Dark Knight Rises will be the last entry in the Nolan trilogy of films?  “We have the third Batman, but then we’ll have to reinvent Batman…Chris Nolan and [producing partner and wife] Emma Thomas will be producing it, so it will be a conversation with them about what the next phase is.”  So the good news is that despite not directing past a third film, Nolan will still be involved in Batman’s film future.  However, the question then becomes will the reinvented Dark Knight make his debut in a Justice League film with a new actor under the cowl?  If Warner Brothers plans on taking any cues from the way Marvel is handling The Avengers, it should be in terms of the cast.  The actors in the solo franchises should carry over to the Justice League .  That means Henry Cavill as Superman, and Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern.  Don’t recast unnecessarily. Does this Justice League film mean a shared DC film universe ala Marvel, or will they first come together in the team up film?  If it’s a shared universe, use subtle hints like the first Iron Man. Don’t make every DC Comics movie a 2 hour advertisement for Justice League live Iron Man 2 was for The Avengers.  I’m excited by the prospect of seeing my favourite superheroes sharing the same screen, and hopefully getting some answers to the questions listed above in due time.
