First Official Image of Stephen Amell Suited Up As Green Arrow!

By Adam Basciano

The pilot episode of Arrow is currently being filmed under the direction of David Nutter.  With that, it was only a matter of time before we got our first look at actor Stephen Amell in full costume.  Before I get to my thoughts on that, let’s run down the recent cast additions. Character actor Paul Blackthorne will play Detective Quentin Lance, father of Dinah Lance.  Blackthorne has a DC Universe connection, as he recently voiced the villain Metallo in the animated film “Justice League: Doom.”  Colin Donnell has been cast as Tommy Merlyn, Oliver Queen’s best friend and possible future adversary.  Veteran Sci-Fi actor Brian Markinson will play the villain of the pilot, Adam Hunt. Jamey Sheridan will play Oliver’s ill-fated father Robert Queen, while former “Charlie’s Angels” and “General Hospital” regular Anne Ilonzeh will play Joanna, a friend and colleague of Dinah Lance.

On to the costume.  I like the look of this design.  It looks relatively simple and straight forward.  The outfit is leather, which I’m fine with.  Seriously, did anyone really expect spandex in this day and age?  The image is dark, gritty and atmospheric, which seems appropriate, as the director of the pilot has described the show as;  “A different show — darker and harder-edged — but it’s the same core idea. We’re creating a real, believable world in which Oliver Queen can do incredible things. Colleen Atwood’s great work on the Arrow costume reflects that effort.”  The costume is far less flashy, or tech-ready as the Smallville/The New 52 version, and is more in keeping with prior comic books such as the graphic novel “The Longbow Hunters.”  The first reveal for “Arrow” is infinitely better than the dreadful Wonder Woman reveal from a year ago.  This has me even more excited for this project

  1. I can’t wait to see this. They’ve got a lot of great talent on board and from what I’ve seen the art direction is appropriately moody. I’m especially excited that Paul Blackthorne is gong to be in Green Arrow. He was great in The Dresden Files, and oddly, I was just feeling kind of nostalgic for that show a few days ago, so I started to re-watch it on dishonline(dot)com. Dishonline is a free streaming site, run by DISH, my employer. Not only does it have a ton of content but a good deal of it is available to anyone, whether you’re a DISH customer or not. I hope Green Arrow goes well, because Blackthorne’s talents aren’t put to proper us in The River.
