When I first heard that they were pushing the reset button on the Spider – Man franchise, I was on the fence about it. On the one hand, I look at reboots much like the changing of a creative team on a comic book. On the other hand, I really enjoyed the Sam Raimi Spider – Man movies. Well, the first two at least. Then they hired Marc Webb, which I found totally serendipitous given his last name and all that. Add to that an incredibly talented main cast including, Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, and Denis Leary. In this behind the scenes featurette, the attention to detail, tone of the story, and the enthusiasm the cast and crew have for the character are all on display.
There are so many things I’m looking forward to from this film. The Gwen/Peter relationship dynamic and how it differs from the Peter/Mary Jane dynamic. I’m really pumped to finally see The Lizard on-screen. I felt somewhat cheated by the previous trilogy, in that Dr. Connors was in every film, they teased The Lizard, but never went all the way with it. The preview clips and trailers suggest a focus on Peter Parker’s intelligence and scientific background. This will add an additional freshness to this film, as the previous trilogy focused on Peter Parker the photographer. From the snippets of footage we have seen, it looks as though Andrew Garfield has captured the essence of Peter Parker’s wise-cracks perfectly, something that was severely lacking in previous films, for me at least. Here’s a perfect example in this clip:
The trailers and clips have me eagerly awaiting the release of this film. Early reviews have been very favourable and with the film opening during the fourth of July holiday, analysts are projecting the film to take in $125 -150 million over its first six days of release.
