The Huntress Has Her Sights Set on “Arrow”!

By: Adam Basciano

While the upcoming CW television series has already announced the inclusion of DC Comics characters Deathstroke and Deadshot, they aren’t stopping there.  Entertainment Weekly has revealed that Australian actress Jessica De Gouw, who will appear in a multi episode story arc, has been cast as DC Comics heroine The Huntress.  There have been two versions of the Huntress in the comic books.  The pre – crisis version of the character was the love child of Bruce Wayne and Selena Kyle, Helena Wayne. (So that’s what happens in Florence!) She carried on her parents crime-fighting legacy. The post crisis version is the daughter of a mafia boss, who becomes the vigilante out of revenge over the death of her family a.k.a. Helena Bertinelli.  Then there’s the New 52 version, who is an amalgamation of the two. She temporarily uses the alias of Helena Bertinelli, but is really Helena Wayne of Earth 2.

Now that I’ve confused the hell out of you with my brief summary of DC continuity, it’s worth noting that Jessica De Gouw will play Helena Bertinelli.  The character is described as “a potential love interest for Oliver Queen; a fellow vigilante, set on destroying her fathers organized crime empire.  But Helena’s blind pursuit of revenge will put her on a collision course with Arrow.”  Seems like “Arrow” is continuing what “Smallville” started, by showcasing the DC Universe in live action.  Note to WB’s film division; the T.V. division is kicking your ass in this department and “Arrow” hasn’t even aired yet!

While this is the first appearance of post-crisis Huntress in live action, pre-crisis Helena Wayne appeared on the short-lived WB series “Birds of Prey.” While the show had its moments, it was largely a misfire.  There was no point in mentioning this, other than as an excuse to post a picture of the stunning Ashley Scott, who played Helena Wayne 😉 “Arrow” premiere’s October 10th 2012 at 8pm, on the CW!
