Robbie Amell To Create A “Firestorm” On The Flash!

Another day and another piece of news letting the world know that the live action DC Universe on television is growing.  Monday saw the reveal that Brandon Routh (Superman Returns), will be bringing Ray Palmer/The Atom to life on the CW hit series “Arrow.” Its, spinoff series “The Flash,” wasted little time adding another superhero to the fold.  Form CW alumni, and cousin to Stephen Amell (Arrow), Robbie Amell (The Tomorrow People) has joined the cast of “The Flash.” The actor will play Ronnie Raymond, better known to comic book fans as the superhero Firestorm. The role is sad to be recurring, and is described as follows; “Ronnie Raymond, a maintenance worker at S.T.A.R. Labs and Dr. Caitlin Snow’s (Danielle Panabaker) fiancé, plays an integral part in the particle accelerator accident that transforms Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) into The Flash.” For those unfamiliar with the character, in the comics mythology, high schooler Ronnie Raymond was caught in a nuclear accident along with physicist Martin Stein, and the encounter fused them together as the nuclear-powered Firestorm. Since Stein was unconscious during the accident, Raymond was predominantly in control of his Firestorm form, while Stein provided a voice of reason inside his head.”

I half expected Robbie Amell to join one of the two CW superhero shows, since the network likes to reteam with actors they’ve worked with before. I really enjoyed The Tomorrow People, and his work on that show.  It’s a shame it got cancelled, but I’m glad he’s joined the DC Universe family.  As for the character of Firestorm, I’ve always found him interesting in the spurts I’ve read of him.  He’s currently featured in the ongoing weekly comic book series “Future’s End.” The actor and character will make his debut on the third episode of “The Flash.”
