One of the true bright spots of the New 52 initiative was it’s treatment of Aquaman.  Geoff Johns over his 25 issue run on the book penned some of, if not the best Aquaman stories ever told.  He challenged the negative perceptions of the character, and played up the Atlantean mythology of the character.  One such story was “Throne of Atlantis” a massive crossover event with the Justice League book.  The story was very well received. So much so, that it’s being adapted to a feature length animated film.  The film will act as a follow up to last years “Justice League: War,” which was WB/DC’s animated take on the New 52 line of comic books.  The next film, appropriately titled, Justice League: Throne of Atlantis”,  “will focus on how young Arthur Curry discovers his aquatic heritage. Raised by his human father, when the movie begins he doesn’t know that he is the heir to the throne of the watery kingdom. We meet him at a low point in his life. He’s a little bit lost. His father has died and he’s always been an outsider, so the  one person who had his back is now gone. When the Atlanteans instigate incidents to escalate a war with the surface world, he doesn’t yet know who he is. As he discovers his true history he’s going to have a lot of choices to make.” So it would seem that the film will be taking several elements of Geoff Johns’ run, mixing in the origin tale with some “Throne of Atlantis” as well.  The animated film has cast Matt Lanter, to voice Arthur Curry/Aquaman.  His previous voice work should earn him some geek points, as he played Anakin Skywalker on “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.” The voice cast from “Justice League: War” return for this film, with the additions of Sam Witwer (Smallville) as Orm, Aquaman’s brother and rival, as well as Sumalee Montano as Mera.
