Double Trouble: GOTHAM Is About To Get Strange!

By: Adam Basciano

Two Face

We know that 3 of Batman’s premiere villains are set to appear on the FOX prequel series GOTHAM. We can add another pair of baddies to the list.  One being a top-tier character to the mythos, the other is probably not as well-known to the general audience members.  Harvey Dent better known as his split faced, coin flipping psychologically damaged alter ego Two-Face, will appear on “GOTHAM.”  Unlike Catwoman and Poison Ivy, Two-Face won’t be a contemporary of young Bruce Wayne.  “We’re playing Harvey Dent slightly older. He’s more Gordon’s age in this telling. One of the things to avoid in order not to tell a high school story — which would be great, but it’s a different show on a different network at a different time that I would not be a part of. But he will go back to school and villains will be part of that world.” Batman Forever gave us a piss poor version of Harvey Dent thanks to Joel Schumacher and Tommy Lee Jones. While Christopher Nolan and Aaron Eckhart, brought justice to the character, he was second fiddle to Heath Ledger as The Joker.  So I’m hopeful that regular appearances on the TV series, will give us our first fully realized live action version of Harvey Dent/Two-Face.

Hugo Strange

The other villain confirmed for a Season 1 appearance is Hugo Strange.  Unless you’re an avid comic book reader, or played the “Arkham” trilogy video games, than Hugo Strange is completely new territory. “Hugo Strange is going to pop up because we’re going to start dealing with how Arkham was created and why Arkham was created in the way that it was so, yeah, absolutely. It’s a Season One thing because in our telling of it the way Arkham was created and the why and how is one of the causes of the particular criminal climate in Gotham that allowed Batman to happen. The revolving door of Arkham is both a brilliant narrative device because it allows you to — you don’t have to kill people off, you can just put them in cold storage.” Hearing quotes like this, makes me all the more excited for the show.  “GOTHAM” premieres in less than 2 months, September 22, 2014 on FOX.
