One of the great opportunities GOTHAM has, is to introduce audiences to characters they’ve never encountered in live action form. They’ve already promised viewers an appearance by Hugo Strange, and hinted at the likes of the Court of Owls and Hush. You can add another confirmed addition from the comic books to GOTHAM, who is a newbie to live action. Actress Morena Baccarin (Firefly, V, Homeland) has joined the cast of GOTHAM as Leslie Thompkins. In the comic books “Leslie is portrayed as having been a close friend of Thomas Wayne. She took it upon herself to look after Wayne’s son, Bruce, after the boy’s parents were killed, often acting with the family butler, Alfred Pennyworth, as a parental figure and guardian, although other sources have her as a woman who comforted Bruce immediately after his parents’ deaths. During that time, Leslie was concerned with Bruce’s behavior as he grew increasingly antisocial. She was even more perturbed when she discovered that, in his adult years, Bruce spent his nights fighting the criminal elements of Gotham as the Batman. ” In the context of the show, the character is described as “a gifted and dedicated physician who was a friend of Bruce Wayne’s parents, Thomas and Martha. She is determined to use her skills to aid Gotham’s most in need, which currently means working at the newly opened Arkham Asylum’s Home for the Criminally Insane. In addition to her medical skills, her coolness under pressure will serve her well as she finds herself drawn close to James Gordon and into more and more dangerous waters.” I love this casting. Morena Baccarin is a talented actress with plenty of geek/sci-fi credibility given her previous work. Her start on the show is said to be episodes airing in 2015.
