With “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice” close to wrapping up principal photography, and “Suicide Squad” in pre-production, gearing up for filming right here in Toronto, the next film Warner Brothers needs to start prepping is “Wonder Woman.” A list of director candidates emerged recently, and the front-runner has gotten the job. “Michelle MacLaren has signed on to develop and direct Wonder Woman, Warner Bros’ big-screen take on the iconic DC character. MacLaren will work with the project’s writers, which remain unnamed at this stage, to lasso together a script for the project, which would star Gal Gadot. Gadot will make her debut as the heroine in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” Charles Roven, Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder are among those producing the movie, which has a June 23, 2017 release date.”
I think this is a fantastic choice. While she may not have feature film experience, she has directed critically acclaimed television series, that look and feel very cinematic. She’s directed 4 episodes of “Game of Thrones”, 3 episodes of “The Walking Dead”, and 11 episodes of “Breaking Bad.” The fact that she is working with the writers in the development process is great, as she will have major influence on the film right from the get got. Also good news, is that the director and producers of “Man of Steel”, & “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice”, will serve as producers on this film. This ensures synergy, and connectivity throughout this new DC Cinematic Universe. We’ll see Wonder Woman first alongside Batman and Superman on March 25 2016, before she flies solo under the guidance of Michelle MacLaren.
