Ryan Reynolds has been in three superhero films, and each one has left fans lamenting about the poor quality of those films. The Canadian born actor played Hannibal King in “Blade: Trinity”, Hal Jordan aka “Green Lantern”, and Wade Wilson, aka the Merc with a Mouth, aka Deadpool in “X – Men Origins: Wolverine.” In my opinion, the perceived failure of those three films can not be blamed on Ryan Reynolds. In fact, his performance was one of the saving graces of all three of those films. Ryan Reynolds will get to prove me right when he reprises one of these roles. “Fox is closing a deal with Ryan Reynolds for a feature on Deadpool, the character he originated in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The film is being directed by Tim Miller, who has done strong visual effects work through his VFX house Blur Films. Miller has been developing the film for several years, from a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, with Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg producing. Production begins in March. Not long ago, test footage for the film made it’s way online, and it’s fantastic. If you haven’t already, see the footage for yourself:
Meanwhile, over at the Disney branch of Marvel, another one of Hollywood’s worst kept secrets has been made official. Actor Benedict Cumberbatch has been cast as the Sorcerer Supreme “Doctor Strange.” ” “Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity,” said Producer Kevin Feige. “In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.” Benedict Cumberbatch’s most well-known performance is the BBC’s “Sherlock”, where he plays the shows titular character. He also gave a strong performance as famous sci-fi villain Khan in “Star Trek: Into Darkness.” Currently the actor is getting Oscar buzz for his role in “The Intimidation Game.” I’ve liked what I’ve seen from the actor to this point, and think he can pull off the brilliant eccentricity of the character of Doctor Strange.
