Supergirl’s Jimmy Olsen Has A Thing For True Blood & Desperate Housewives!

The Man of Steel may not have Jimmy Olsen in his supporting cast, but his TV bound cousin certainly does. “Actor Mehcad Brooks (Necessary Roughness, True Blood) has been cast as James Olsen in Supergirl, the high flying new series in development from Berlanti Productions, Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment.  Supergirl’s James Olsen is described as a photographer at CatCo, the media company where Kara (series star Melissa Benoist) works. He has recently been living and working in National City, though the reason is still a secret.” The actor has also has had a stint on Desperate Housewives as well.

Here’s my typical rant whenever this happens, but some people are just stupid, so bare with me.  To all the bigots complaining; Yes, Jimmy Olsen in the comic books is Caucasian and often portrayed with red hair. Actor Mehcad Brooks clearly choses not to have hair and happens to be black.  To borrow a phrase from The Rock, “IT DOSENT MATTER!” Clearly, the actor auditioned and beat out a number of actors for the role.  Meaning he was best for what the show requires the character to be. That my dear friends, is what really matters.  Also, Michael Clark Duncan, Sam Jones III, Laurence Fishburne, Candice Patton are all examples of instances of casting against the racial type of their comic book counterpart. It’s about how they bring the role to life not the colour of their skin. I for one cannot wait to see Mehcad Brooks breathe new life into James Olsen.
