Trailer + New Poster For Terminator: Genisys!

Terminator - He's Back Poster

The first trailer for Terminator: Genisys was released prior to Dave and I restructuring the site to expand to more topics.  So I thought I’d give some brief thoughts on the matter. For those who don’t know “The beginning of Terminator: Genisys, the first of three planned films that Paramount hopes will relaunch the beloved sci-fi franchise, is set in 2029, when the Future War is raging and a group of human rebels has the evil artificial-intelligence system Skynet on the ropes. John Connor (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Jason Clarke) is the leader of the resistance, and Kyle Reese (Divergent‘s Jai Courtney) is his loyal soldier, raised in the ruins of post apocalyptic California. As in the original film, Connor sends Reese back to 1984 to save Connor’s mother, Sarah (Game of Thrones‘ Emilia Clarke), from a Terminator programmed to kill her so that she won’t ever give birth to John. But what Reese finds on the other side is nothing like he expected.” Check out the trailer…

If that looks and feels a little like X-Men: Days of Future Past to you, I think that’s what the filmmakers are going for with this entry in the franchise. The tone of the trailer harkens back to The Terminator & Terminator 2: Judgement Day, which is definitely a good thing.  In saying that, there were elements of both Terminator: Rise of the Machines and Terminator Salvation that I enjoy. Back to this upcoming film.  The trailer does a great job of balancing story detail, with action shots, and obligatory classic Arnold one liners from the original films.  The main cast of Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, and Jason Clarke are all talented performers who seem to fit their roles well. Director Alan Taylor did great work on Game of Thrones, and made the mundane Thor franchise watchable for me, when he directed the second installment. He should definitely bring more quality to the production then previous two directors Jonathan Mostow and McG. Terminator Genisys will be released on July 1 2015.
