CBS’ “Supergirl television series will be predominantly set on Earth, but there will no doubt be some initial scenes on Supergirl’s home planet of Krypton. As such, the show has cast half of her Kryptonian parental unit. “Nashville standout Laura Benanti has been cast in a key recurring role in the CBS pilot Supergirl. She will play Alura Zor-El, the birth mother of Kara (Melissa Benoist). A strong noblewoman, Alura sends Kara to Earth to escape Krypton’s destruction. Her wisdom and guidance echoes across space and time, proving invaluable on Kara’s journey toward becoming Supergirl.” The fact that this is a recurring role could suggest that either the series will feature several flashback sequences, or Alura will serve as a hologram throughout the series a la Jor-El. I’ve never seen any of her work, but her credentials are impressive, and to quote a friend of mine, “She’s very alluring.” Pun very much intended.
Meanwhile, both Jared Leto and Will Smith both spoke as to one of the reasons they took on their roles of The Joker and Deadshot in the upcoming “Suicide Squad” film. Leto said; “The opportunity to take on this nearly Shakespearean character — that’s what graphic novels and comic books are becoming, right? [He’s] this beautiful disaster of a character — what a big challenge.” Regarding Deadshot Will Smith said; With this character and the DC world, I love that I’m getting the opportunity for the global definition of Deadshot, there’s been Deadshot in little appearances here and there, there’s an idea, but Deadshot isn’t defined, really. I get to be a part of the creation that will be the biggest historical image of Deadshot.” I love how excited and eager the cast of Suicide Squad is! That just raises my anticipation for this film a few extra notches.
