Now that a deal has been struck between Marvel and Sony, the two are looking to find the right man to help Spider-Man swing in to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “Drew Goddard is in very early talks to direct and write the upcoming film. Sources say the deal is in the earliest stages and that Goddard is expected to meet with studio execs soon” according to The Hollywood Reporter. Drew Goddard is familiar with superhero fare, having written and produced four episodes of “Daredevil” for Netflix. He then left that series to write the proposed “Sinister Six” film for Sony. Latino Review, who broke the story about the writer/director’s involvement with the new Spider man film franchise, indicates that the Sinister Six project has been shelved, so that Mr. Goddard can focus his attention on writing and directing “The Spectacular Spider-Man.” In terms of what to look for from this new iteration of the franchise;
No new origin story, Spidey exists from the beginning, taken as a given
New actor, probably an unknown, he will be specifically based in High School and they want him to be able to grow up into the role. The thought being if this works, Spidey can do multiple trilogies for years ala Harry Potter.
A major part of the first film will involve Spider- Man fighting Iron Man and then trying to pass the “audition” to join the Avengers
The first film will involved the Sinister Six coming together with the thought to later maybe spin them off.
I am a fan of Drew Goddard’s work. Having written for the likes of the TV show Alias and the film Cloverfield. I look forward to seeing his contributions to Daredevil. I’m very confident that he can bring Spider-Man back to a level of cinematic greatness once again.
