Fish To Get Fried On GOTHAM; Chalk It Up To Lucius Fox!

By: Adam Basciano

Fish

When Jada Pinkett Smith signed on to play Fish Mooney on GOTHAM, no secret was made that the deal was for one season only. On a recent talk show appearance, she reaffirmed that she likely won’t be back for season two. When asked she said; I don’t think so,” Smith shook her head. “No. I signed for a year and, you know, the year is up, but there are some great things coming ahead on Gotham. Believe you me. There’s a lot of good stuff coming.” I’ve made no bones about not liking Jada Pinkett Smith in the role.  While she’s improved, for the first half of the season I felt she was overacting and laying on the camp a little too thick. So I won’t be torn up to see her leave the series.

Lucius Fox

While GOTHAM will be subtracting a villain from their cast, they are adding an ally for young Bruce Wayne.  This character was made famous in live action in “The Dark Knight” trilogy, played wonderfully by Morgan Freeman, “Chris Chalk (12 Years A Slave) has been cast as Lucius Fox in the Fox drama series. He will appear in the penultimate Episode 21 of the current first season with an option to return in Season 2.  Lucius Fox is Wayne Enterprises’ resident tech genius. In a corporation shadowed by nefarious dealings, Fox emerges as a moral beacon for young Bruce Wayne. His desire to help Bruce uphold Thomas Wayne’s legacy eventually will earn him a spot as one of the boy’s most important confidants.”  It will be fun to explore this relationship when both characters are much younger than their film universe.  And at least we’ll know where Batman eventually gets his “wonderful toys” from in this continuity of the story.
