No, the next Spider-Man film will not be shot in the Netherlands, but actor Tom Holland will play Peter Parker in the Sony/Marvel shared franchise. To say I’m familiar with his work would be an absolute lie! Having perused his imdb page, I’ve seen nothing he’s been in. In fact, the 19-year-old actor has 9 film credits to his name. Casting an unknown is often practiced, and usually works for the best in superhero films. Regarding the cast, producer Amy Pascal had this to say; “Sony, Marvel, Kevin and I all knew that for Peter Parker, we had to find a vibrant, talented young actor capable of embodying one of the most well-known characters in the world. With Tom, we’ve found the perfect actor to bring Spider-Man’s story into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.” Not only have the two studio’s found their leading man, but they’ve also found the director who will guide the young superhero through his first solo adventure in the MCU proper. Jon Watts will direct the film, due to hit theaters on July 28 2017. Once again, I have no idea who this director is. Again, I’m not concerned because Tim Burton and Christopher Nolan were “nobody’s” before they made their respective Batman films. Also noteworthy is that Richard Donner and Jon Favreau weren’t household names when they brought Superman and Iron-Man to the big screen either. Regarding the choice of director, Marvel’s Kevin Feige said; “As with James Gunn, Joss Whedon, and the Russo brothers, we love finding new and exciting voices to bring these characters to life. We spent a lot of time with Jon and find his take and work inspiring.” Before the new Spider-Man swings through New York on his own, he’ll need to pick a side between Captain America or Iron-Man in Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War”, currently filming in Atlanta.
