Warner Brothers kicked all kinds of ass at this years San Diego Comic Con. Things started off slow, as WB showed footage of two movies nobody gives a crap about in The Man of U.N.C.L.E. and Pan. Things kicked into high gear, when the studio revealed that the title of the Green Lantern reboot would indeed be Green Lantern Corps. No actors were announced at this point. Things got real good when Suicide Squad director David Ayer appeared on stage with the entire cast, except for Jared Leto. A sizzle reel for the film was shown, but has not been officially released online. What I can tell you is that both Margot Robbie and Jared Leto stole the scene’s they were in as Harley Quinn and the Joker. Then it was time for Zack Snyder and the entire cast of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice to get on stage. Yes, they showed a brand new trailer, and it was awesome! We learned that Superman will have to explain himself to the Supreme Court for the events of Man of Steel. Also of note is Bruce Wayne was in Metropolis during the Superman/Zod fight in Man of Steel. One of Wayne’s buildings was destroyed, people he employed died. That, plus fear of Superman’s capability to destroy the planet forces Batman to feel a need to take him down. This Batman has history; it is confirmed that Robin was killed at the hands of The Joker. Alfred acts as a friend, trying to prevent Bruce from losing himself completely to the Batman persona. Conversely, Lois and Martha both have great scenes explaining why Superman needs to continue being the hero. We see several shots of Superman saving innocent people. We see Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. The dude is a creep you just want to punch in the face. And that’s a good thing. Gone is that Gene Hackman/ Kevin Spacey camp-fest, that’s been regurgitated far too often. We see him experimenting with Kryptonite, and we see General Zod’s dead corpse. Could this lead to the creation of Doomsday!? Wonder Woman made her historic first live action film appearance, and looked absolutely bad ass! Anyone still doubting Gal Gadot’s look is an idiot. There were so many shots that were ripped straight out of the comic books. I saw references to The Dark Knight Returns, Superman: Peace on Earth, Superman: Red Son, and Batman: A Death In The Family. There are probably more, but those are some I picked up on! Director Zack Snyder is a visual genius and with Chris Terrio’s script, this is going to be something special!
