Ant-Man is the final film in Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the character is a founding member of The Avengers, no one will argue that he is among the most popular superheroes. He’s even had trouble maintaining his own comic book over the years. Yet, the character has managed to grab and hold onto #1 at the box office for two weekends in a row. In 10 days, Ant-Man has crawled his way to $106,219,861. Internationally, Marvel’s smallest superhero has flown his way to $120,400,000. Worldwide the film has tallied $226,619,861. Naysayers will point to the fact that Ant-Man is currently the second lowest grossing Marvel Cinematic Universe film. However, lest we forget Ant-Man is a very unknown property to the average viewer. Looking outside the MCU, and at all films under the Marvel brand, Ant-Man is outpacing several films including, The Incredible Hulk, both original Fantastic Four movies, X-Men & X-Men: First Class, and The Wolverine. All these films feature higher profile characters when compared to Ant-Man. Not to mention Ant-Man is out in the midst of a crowded movie market right now. The film is doing extremely well for the studio, with plenty of time left in its theater run.
Speaking of box office, The Avengers held the 3 spot for all time domestic and worldwide box office totals. Well, it has been deposed of the third spot by Star Lord. Guardian’s of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt, and a bunch of CGI dinosaurs did what Loki and Ultron could not….beat The Avengers. Jurassic World has accumulated $624,083,950 domestically and $1,541,783,950. Loki may have an army, The Avengers may have a Hulk, but Star Lord has raptors and a new record.
