With the exception of Arrow, which has “shit the bed” this season with horrendous story telling, horrid decision making, and a idiotic villain, the DC Television Universe led by Greg Berlanti has been phenomenal. The Flash has defied the odds, and gotten even better, while Supergirl and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow have been so fun and entertaining. The success and quality of these shows, has many fans wanting Greg Berlanti involved on the movie side of things. While he won’t become the Kevin Feige of the DCEU, Berlanti will in fact make the jump to film. “I’m attached to a few films [at Warner Bros.] now, and one, Booster Gold, is a DC property. Zack Stentz, who wrote an episode of Flash last year, just got the job, so he’s writing the script now. I’d probably direct that, or I would want to.” If Booster Gold maintains a similar tone to what Berlanti is doing on the TV side of things, I think it could be a fun and entertaining film. For those scoffing and suggesting Booster Gold can’t work as a film, I call BULL$#^+ on your claim. We live in a world where a hero as ludicrous as Ant-Man can make $500+ million at the worldwide box office. If that can be profitable, anything can, if handled correctly. As for writer Zack Stentz, he’s a co-writer of the first Thor film, X-Men: First Class, and the Power Rangers reboot.
Suicide Squad hasn’t even been released yet, and I’m already in love with Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Warner Brothers must feel the same way because according to the Hollywood Reporter; “Margot Robbie, who stars as the villainess in Suicide Squad, is attached to reprise the character and would also produce the untitled spinoff, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. But in an interesting twist, the project is not a Quinn solo movie. Rather, it would focus on several of DC’s female heroes and villains.Details are being closely guarded but names such as Batgirl and Birds of Prey have surfaced, although in what capacity, it’s not clear. Warner Bros. isn’t commenting. There is also a scribe penning the script but those details, too, are being kept secret, although it is known that the writer is female.” According to the report, the actress has fallen in love with the character, and brought the idea and writer to the studio. This is music to my ears, is a smart idea, and would make Warner Brothers the leader in female lead superhero films. Marvel has yet to announce a star or director for its Captain Marvel adaptation, while Kevin Feige continues to make half hearted statements regarding a Black Widow solo film that never actually come to fruition or amount to anything. I’m hoping this film includes The Birds of Prey along with Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy and Catwoman, as those are some of my favourite female DC characters.
